Official World of Warcraft: Forever Naming Rules & Policy
1. Why does each name segment require at least 2 characters?

With the new First Name + Surname dual-name system, the client enforces a minimum length of 2 characters on each part. Single-character names (like 'Guan Yu' with 1-character parts) are strictly blocked by the client. Players must use at least 2 characters for both first name and surname.

2. Why is the Chinese name total strictly capped at 6 Hanzi?

The client limits character names to 12 bytes (6 double-byte CJK Hanzi). Even with a space separator, the sum of Hanzi across both parts must be within 4 to 6 characters (e.g. 2+4, 3+3, 4+2). Exceeding 6 characters triggers a 'Name too long' error.

3. What are the specific rules for Western realms (US/EU, FR, DE, ES)?

Western realms limit each segment between 2 and 12 letters. French supports full diacritics (é, è, ç, etc.); German supports umlauts (ä, ö, ü, ß); Spanish supports accents and ñ. All names must adhere to Title Case and forbid hyphens and apostrophes.

4. Can Chinese realm players use pure English names? Is mixed script allowed?

Yes, Chinese realms support pure English dual-names (2-12 letters each, up to 24 letters total, in Title Case). However, mixing Chinese and Latin scripts (e.g. 'Zhuge Jack') is strictly blocked by the client.

5. How can I quickly generate compliant names?

Our generator algorithm is fully integrated with this compliance engine. All generated names and clan surnames are 100% compliant and ready for one-click copy.
